William Howard auf Etwas ist falsch Herbert

Die neue Grenze zwischen Mexiko und den USA. In Material. William Howard hat sie aufgenommen. Eindrücke für all jene, die gerade keine Lust auf USA-Tourismus haben. Wellblechkilometer um Wellblechkilometer. Das muss nicht mit sehr viel Kommentar versehen werden. Die Fotos sind beeindruckend und dabei kommt Howard auch noch ohne jedes Pathos aus. Auch wenn Herbert dazu etwas lässig aus der Box kommt, stimmt nicht nur der Titel.

the border between mexico and the USA. in material. William Howard did catch it. impressions for those who do not feel like USA-tourisme at the moment. sheet metal , miles for miles. a lot of comentary to this is not needed. the images are impressing and done without a lot of pathos. maybe Herbert might come out of the box a little too easy but even the title makes sense.

Robert Adams und Ghostigital

Leben in neuen Häusern – Migranten in Colorado – angekommen im sauberen Westen der 60er. So hatten sie sich ihre neue Heimat nicht vorgestellt. Und Robert Adams hielt mit der Kamera fest: die boxenartigen Fertighäuser, die gleichgeschalteten Automobile, die vermisste Natur. Die Enttäuschung eben.
Das Stück Musik heute scheint vermeintlich nur wenig zu passen. Kann man vielleicht wie einen Gegenentwurf hören. Ghostigital haben so viel Druck wie so eine gottverlassene, ganze Siedlung nicht.

to live in new houses – emigrants in colorado – when they arrived in the clean west of the sixtis they met a new home which was not supposed to be like that: the box like ready houses, the same looking cars, a missing nature. just a disappointment. the piece of music for today is supposed to be listened as a smash of contradiction. Ghostigital have so much power like such a god forsaken whole settlement does not have.

Christoph Martin Schmid und Hot Chip

Postmodernes Dasein, gerade als Protagonisten der überbordenden Konsum- und Warenwelt ist ein häufiges Sujet gegenwärtiger Fotografie. Christoph Martin Schmid packt so etwas in eine kurzweilige Fotostrecke, bei der man gemütlich Abstand nehmen kann. Ärger im Paradies haben ironischerweise(?) nur die Reichen.

postmoderne existence as protagonists in the exploding consumption world of capitalisme is a repeating subject for the photography of the time. Christoph Martin Schmid puts something like this into an amusing line and lets space open to take distance again. trouble in paradise is ironicaly(?) left to just wealthy people.

Jack Bridges auf Fort Minor

Das Chicago Housing Project war einmal eines der grössten Sozial-Wohnungsbauprojekte der Welt. Viel ist von diesem ambitionierten Vorhaben im Süden Chicagos nicht geblieben. In seinen Fotos dokumentiert Jack Bridges die Reste eines von Drogen und Gewalt zerstörten Viertels. Die vor allem in Sepia gehaltenen Fotografien versuchen die Wärme einzufangen, die es zwischen den Bewohnern dieser Community noch gibt. Als wollte Bridges – vorbei an möglichen nostalgischen Interpretationen – sagen: Hey seht hin, da gibt es noch mehr als Armut, Tod und Zerstörung.

the chicago housing project was once one of the biggest social housing project in the world. now there is not much left of this ambitiounes plan in the south part of chicago. through his pictures Jack Bridges is documenting the remainings of this by violence and drugs destroyed district. his particularely black and white images try to catch the warm tunes which are still alive between the inhabitants of the community, like he wanted to say – without possible nostalgic interpretations – : hey, check it out, there is still more than poverty, death and destruction.

Daido Moriyama und Saw Saw Soup

Einer der grossen japanischen Fotografen – Daido Moriyama. Schwarzweiss und alles was das Grau dazwischen hergibt. Es ist nicht sehr einfach, etwas mehr als das Bekannte über ihn zu finden. Ein recht ausführliche Seite zu ihm bzw. einem bemerkenswerten Fotoband habe ich auf einem neuen Angebot für Fotoliebhaber gefunden, dem Photo Book Guide (leider erst ein englischsprachiger Service).

one of the great japanese photographer – Daido Moriyama. pictures in black and white and all about the sensitive grey in between. it is not easy to find more about him than the already known. a quit rich site about him including a remarkable picture book i found on a new offer for picture lovers, the Photo Book Guide (unfortunately until now only a service in english).

Colleen Plumb mit Delorean

Zuerst kam ich nicht drauf. Aber dann hatte ich es wieder. Die Arbeiten von Colleen Plumb erinnern mich an einen Film von Peter Greenaway – Drowning by Numbers (Die Verschwörung der Frauen). Lauter tote Tiere. Wie sie die wohl findet. Vielleicht sollte ich meine selektive Wahrnehmung mal umstellen. Auf Zeit, versteht sich. Beeindruckend.

it took some time but then i got it. the work of Colleen Plumb reminds me of a movie from Peter Greenaway – Drowning by Numbers. just dead animals. i wonder how she finds them. maybe i should change my selective notice. on time of course. very impressing.
