Berenice Abbott mit altmodischer Discomusik

Schwarz-Weiss-Fotografie - noch immer eine heimliche Liebe von mir. Und ich überlege mir regelmässig, ob es sich lohnen würde, das Equipment für die DIY-Entwicklung anzuschaffen. Dazu würde dann ein umfangreicher Kurs in Sachen Chemie gehören. Und ich schrecke jeweils davor zurück. Bleibt festzustellen, dass das Fotografieren ohne Farben einfach überwältigende Ergebnisse liefern kann. Selbst wenn man nicht so begnadet ist wie Berenice Abott (1898-1991), amerikanische Fotografin mit Vorliebe für die unamerikanischste Stadt Amerikas.

black and white photography remains a secret passion of mine. sometimes i still get attracted by the thought to get the DIY equipment but i always worry about all the chemistry which belongs to it. however, the uncoloured pictures can have amazing effects even for the ones which are not so gifted like Berenice Abott (1898-1991). she was an american photographer with a faible for the unamerican citys of the states.

Mit dem heutigen Fotografen kommt einer der einflussreichsten Künstler Amerikas und einer der Pioniere der Farbfoptografie auf meine Seiten. Man stelle sich vor, da verkauft jemand seine erste Fotografie. Ans Moma. Mit 14.
Selbstverständlich hat es mir - mit meinem Faible für urbane Fotografie - seine Serie American Surfaces angetan.

with the today photographer comes one of the most influencing american artist on my blog. just imagine like someone sells his first shoot with 14. ans moma. of course i with my faible for urban photographie like particularely his set “american surfaces.”

David Goldblatt und Hotlinks bleiben unfreundlich…

Da beisst die Maus keinen Faden ab. Die Verlinkungsangewohnheiten einiger Leser/innen hier, sind sehr eigennützig und zwingen zu Massnahmen, die ich eigentlich vermeiden wollte. Deshalb: künftig werden alle Titel nur noch einige Tage online sein. Das kann ja kein Mensch bezahlen, den Traffic, der durch Hotlinks generiert wird. Auch das Bilder”klauen” ist keine höfliche Sache und sollte ich derartiger Verwendung auf die Schliche kommen, wird fürderhin mal was ganz was unerkleckliches als Bildersatz untergejubelt.

Unabhängig von diesen unerfreulichen Umständen verweise ich heute auf einen südafrikanischen Künstler, der gerade in Winterthur ausgestellt wird. Vom 3. März bis 20. Mai sind seine Fotos als Naherlebnis einsehbar.

Morgan Hagar fängt Warenkörbe ein

Morgan Hagar kümmerte sich in einer kürzlich produzierten Serie um die Insignien unserer Kaufkultur. Zu riesigen Einkaufszentren gehören zu gross geratene Einkaufswagen. Doch falsch gedacht, wer da Reichtum denkt, auch wenn diese Dinger vom Überfluss zu künden scheinen. Wo sie rumstehen, ist nicht alles mehr so richtig gut. Sie werden von denen stehengelassen, die es sich nicht mehr leisten können, mit ihnen zum verchromten Jeep zu scheppern. Der Fotojournalist Hagar ist ausgezogen, in Californien (vor allem LA) die Konflikte des menschlichen Miteinanders zu dokumentieren. Eindrücklich geht er für diese Aufgabe zur Sache.

Emmy Andriesse lässt den Sommer tanzen

Emmy Andriesse gehört nach Meinung der niederländischen Fotoszene zu den grossen Talenten des letzten Jahrhunderts. Ihre schwarzweissen Fotografien sind wirklich einprägsam. Beeindruckend ihr Gefühl für Momente. Sie muss ähnlich einem Henri Cartier-Bresson immer eine Kamera dabeigehabt haben. Ihre Fotos sind Schnappschüsse mitten aus dem Alltag, der unscheinbarer kaum sein kann. Und doch fängt sie diese Augenblicke ein, an denen sich ihre Protagoisten vielleicht das ganze Leben erinnern werden.

Heute übrigens kündige ich einige Tage Absenz an (ganz zu schweigen von der Absence, die seit Wochen unveränderter Zustand ist). Bis zum nächsten Mittwoch herrscht hier urlaubsbedingtes Schweigen. *g* Währenddessen kann ja der sehr hottige Sommer-Popmusikmix laufen. Wir sehen uns.

the photoscene of holland considers Emmy Andriesse one of the talents of the last century. her black and white pictures are really impressive. amazing her sense for moments. she must have like Henri Cartier-Bresson carried always a camera with her. her images are snapshots in unspectular daily life. and still she captures those moments which might be remembered by the protagonist for the whole life.

Diane Arbus mit tiefgängigem Indie-Mix

Ich liebe dieses Foto sehr. Es hat eine Authentizität, um die viele Kollegen die Fotografin Diane Arbus beneiden (sollten). Sie hat ihre Szenen in der Regel durchdacht. Jedes ist Kompostion - die Bilder selbst vermitteln im Gegensatz dazu den knapp erfassten Augenblick - der scheinbar ideale Schnappschuss. Dessen scheinbar spontaner Moment darüber hinwegtäuscht, dass er doch nur die tägliche Routine einfängt. Da sind Arbus’ Inszenierungen nur konsequent und ihrer Zeit eigentlich voraus gewesen. 1971 nahm sich die New Yorker Künstlerin das Leben. 2006 kommt mit Fur die längst fällige Verfilmung ihres Lebens in die Kinos mit Nicole Kidman in der Hauptrolle.

i love this image very much. it has an authentity which a lot of pals of Daine Arbus are yealous or should be. she all in all thought about her sequences. every singe one is a composition - the pictures themselves show in the opposition to it the short captured moment - the too obvious idealistique snap shot whose too spontanious moment takes over the reality, the daily routine. so the work of Arbus is a consequent one and actually ahead. 1971 the new yorker artist commited suicide. 2006 finally there is a movie coming up with Nicole Kidman playing the main part.
