Das Chicago Housing Project war einmal eines der grössten Sozial-Wohnungsbauprojekte der Welt. Viel ist von diesem ambitionierten Vorhaben im Süden Chicagos nicht geblieben. In seinen Fotos dokumentiert Jack Bridges die Reste eines von Drogen und Gewalt zerstörten Viertels. Die vor allem in Sepia gehaltenen Fotografien versuchen die Wärme einzufangen, die es zwischen den Bewohnern dieser Community noch gibt. Als wollte Bridges - vorbei an möglichen nostalgischen Interpretationen - sagen: Hey seht hin, da gibt es noch mehr als Armut, Tod und Zerstörung.
the chicago housing project was once one of the biggest social housing project in the world. now there is not much left of this ambitiounes plan in the south part of chicago. through his pictures Jack Bridges is documenting the remainings of this by violence and drugs destroyed district. his particularely black and white images try to catch the warm tunes which are still alive between the inhabitants of the community, like he wanted to say - without possible nostalgic interpretations - : hey, check it out, there is still more than poverty, death and destruction.
